Always use your best judgment when traveling. Also, as Brian describes, look into Travel insurance but look at the fine print because some insurances do NOT cover cancellations because of things like this. he last few months. COVID-19 discussion has forced businesses and schools to transition to being completely remote and is even predicted to lower gas prices in the coming weeks. One of the biggest hit industries is the airline industry. Just recently, President Trump announced that there would be a travel ban on 26 countries in Europe in response to lowering the spread of the coronavirus.
All of this comes just a week after airlines have slashed prices for flights across the world and millennials took to twitter to take advantage of the cheap flights. Taking a #coronacation is what it's being called with flights to destinations dropping for some flights a whopping 80%. Flights from Atlanta (ATL) > New York (EWR) are just $67 via United Airlines and New York (LGA) to Los Angeles (LAX) will run you just $75 on Spirit. With flight prices across the world being slashed left and right, is now the time to fly?
Yes...and No.
Why Yes? Well for one, cheap flights are ALWAYS a good thing. However, because we don't know how big or bad this virus will spread, I always say to air on the side of caution. If you have flexible travel plans, can afford possible interruptions, then take advantage of the price cuts. Also, some of the cheap flights branch out for the next 4 - 6 months. We don't know how long this pandemic will occur so taking advantage of the vacation to Jamaica in September for less than $200 could be beneficial. Most airlines are constantly updating their cancelation and exchange policies in response to the coronavirus, so booking that flight NOW for later travel could end up being a great way to get a good deal on a normally expensive destination.
